Webinar: Learn and Earn Business Leadership Team Working Group Meeting

Thursday, March 17, 2011
2:00 pm – 3:00pm ET

On March 17, 2011, the Learn and Earn Business Leadership Team convened via a web conference for its first quarter meeting in 2011. The Leadership Team consists of leaders who come together to share promising practices in business-led, talent development models that help entry-level workers attain postsecondary credentials with value in the labor market. In this web conference, team members reflected on accomplishments of the Learn and Earn work over the past year and discussed 2011 goals for Corporate Voices’ Learn and Earn initiative, under continuing support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Peggy Walton, Senior Director of Workforce Readiness at Corporate Voices, led a discussion of activities over the past year, and described new initiatives for 2011, including forming a Community College Advisory Group to catalyze conversations between businesses and community colleges. Corporate Voices will also continue to research and highlight business-led, best practice Learn and Earn models in a series of micro-business case studies. Dan Montgomery, Senior Director of Learning, Consulting & Curriculum with Convergys provided an in-depth overview of the company’s partnership with Bellevue University and their Professional Customer Care Management Certificate.  Dorothy Martin, LearningLINK, National Program Manager with Verizon Wireless discussed the best way to build a “movement” among employers on the national level who share the same business culture that supports education completion and life-long learning among employees.  The Learn and Earn Business Leadership Team will continue this discussion following a Pacific Northwest regional meeting to explore interest and a process for moving forward.
